London has no shortage of craft beer pubs or gin bars, but what about places where you can get boozy on bubbles? Here to put some fizz into Camden High Street is Trufflesecco, which specialises in – you guessed it – prosecco and truffles (the fancy fungi kind, not the chocolate variety).
In case you’re in any doubt of what this bar is about, the distinctive smell of truffles hits you as soon as you walk through the door. And it doesn’t stop there. Bottles of prosecco hang from the ceilings as lights and there’s a blackboard that reads: ‘I only drink prosecco on days that end in a “y”’. It’s a little OTT.
But at least the enthusiasm is reflected in the drinks list, where nine types of prosecco and sparkling wine are available, although you can only purchase two by the glass. If you need a break from the bubbles, there’s a selection of Italian wines, but don’t even think about asking for your bubbles in beer form.
As for that truffle aroma wafting from the kitchen, there’s a short food menu that ranges from bar snacks (the truffle popcorn was excellent) to main dishes of fresh pasta with truffles. Oh, and a cheese platter with both truffle cheese and prosecco cheese. And if that’s not commitment to a gimmick, I don’t know what is.
