Inventive, compelling and discreet - like the secret passage ways in mythical castles, moving walls, hidden closets and stowed cabinets surprise out from every cranny.
Defiantly laughing at the notion that small spaces are confined and beholden, Brewers Court is proof that compact spaces can also be dynamic and fun. A mere 500 sq.ft., this diminutive darling is dwarfed by the neighbouring Georgian townhouses that make up Bishops Bridge Road.
However, as a testament to the quintessential 4M ingenuity and efficiency, in four months, this originally two bedroom cramped ex-council flat, was transformed into a pragmatic gadget box and a cosy home, ideal for hosting intimate gatherings and entertaining guests - a sharp contrast of what it looked liked previously.
Appealing to the nostalgic dexterity of a children’s pop-up story book -its smooth planed interior was belying of the utilitarian practicality within.
Functionality is key to this design, and although uniquely tailored for the couple needs, all the while keeping in the background the projected needs of future potential buyers, with upmost attention being paid to make sure every piece of furniture and shelf as efficient as possible.
The first thing 4M did was hollowing out all clutter, to open up the space to its fullest of potential, before beginning to equip it with all the essential build-ins.
Throughout the apartment, engineered oak flooring spans all but the bathroom floor, which bears cut to size black honed granite. Within this bathroom, the walls are lined with large pieces of back painted glass to form a turquoise colour scheme, projecting diamond -esque reflections of luminous flow throughout the shower borders.
In the kitchen, cantilevers folds down to become a table for working, or dining –the disappearing illusion of a floating table - that doesn’t encroach on precious living space when not in use.
However small, this home does not indulge in excuses, and provides the purposeful practicality of any other apartment double or triple its size. The spaces within have been masterfully designed to include: a full kitchen and living room, queen-sized bedroom complete with a walk-in closet, ample book shelves and storage space, topped off with a luxurious shower.
The level of style and smart usage is a victory of space maximization that showcases the best of 4M’s ability to maximise potential through design, and testament to the unerring imagination for bespoke craftsmanship.
